Redcar Racing GEN 8 International Scout II (1/10)

Let me say from the beginning that this accurate 1/10 scale car is jaw-dropping. Nothing is more thrilling than an RC model looking exactly like the real thing.

It even features real wheel wells that don’t let you see in the chassis from outside.

The GEN 8 doesn’t only look exactly like a Scout II, but when it comes to transmission and suspension, it works like the real thing too.

Portal axles with transfer box in the middle, 3-link suspension at the front, 4-link at the back. This thing is looking and driving like the real one.

The GEN 8 is a dedicated rock crawler and so it has a short transfer ratio that outputs more torque and less speed.

It’s not meant to run around dirt roads, though it can do that too, it’s meant to overcome obstacles and go over huge rocks. Rock crawling is more of a mind game than a speed thrill thing.

The aluminum shocks work in harmony with the rest of the suspension which has a huge traveling distance, keeping all wheels on the ground on most of the occasions.

The tires are made from a soft compound and are grippy. In practice, the GEN 8 can pull itself up on some very rough and steep terrain, having at the same time a huge rollover angle.

If you ever dreamed of an RC car that looks like a real one, this is as good as it gets.

Technical specifications

  • Product Dimension: 22.5 x 9.8 x 10.15 inches
  • Ground Clearance: 1.75”

  • The windows are stickers instead of clear plastic

ARRMA 1/10 SENTON MEGA 4X4 RC Stadium Truck

A Baja-type track in 1/10 scale ideal for beginners or people looking for a way to enter the hobby without breaking the bank.

It has a nice red and black bodyshell and the pins are attached to it with small cords, so you don’t lose them while working on the chassis.

That’s brilliant, I wish all the manufacturers did it. Under the body, is a bathtub chassis with a 550 motor and a 2400 NiMh battery.

They both are pretty good, but for the price, I would want a brushless motor or a LiPo battery.

Having said that, their performance is solid, especially the motor’s, and the Senton moves at a pretty good pace.

The independent suspension is also good with oil-filled coilovers, giving the Senton neutral handling with a bit of understeer at the entrance of the turns and a tad oversteer at the exit.

It’s a great RC truck to bash around and all of its parts look like they can take a good beating without breaking.

The included STX2 controller from Spektrum is great as are most of the company’s transmitters. The Senton has great potential, especially with a few upgrades. Switching to a LiPo battery would be my first one.

Technical specifications

  • Product Dimension: 22 x 11.7 x 8.7 inches
  • Weight: 11.3 pounds
  • Motor: RC540 Brushless
  • Vehicle Battery: NiMh 8.4V, 2400mAh
  • Run Time: 10 - 20 min
  • Battery Required: 4 AA

  • Nice handling
  • Good transmitter
  • Oil-filled shocks
  • Waterproof electronics

  • I would expect a LiPo battery for the money

Buying Guide: How to pick the right car if you have a budget of $300

Landing yourself the best RC car may be a cumbersome experience if you don't do it the right way. And in the right way, I mean knowing the kind of car you want before heading to the market to get it.

Most of them offer a fascinating look, but in all honesty, they differ from each other from the way they operate.

To clarify this, there is a lot of things to consider before settling your mind on a specific model of the RC car. Hobby, racing, toy are the primary categories as far as RC cars are concerned. Continue reading this guide to learn more.

Things to Consider

Even with a large number of choices that are available on the market, this doesn't mean that you can purchase just any of them. To land yourself the best choice, the followings are the absolutely important things to think about.

Type of RC Car: There is plenty of types available. It ranges from exotic cars, pickups, crawlers, trucks, amongst others. Take your time to decide on the type you need.

Speed: It is imperative to consider the speed of the car since it will legitimately decide the execution of the RC car you are going to buy. In the case of many RC cars, the average speed goes from 10 mph to 70 mph.

Scale: This is indicative of the size of the vehicle. You can choose from the three standard sizes available – 1/8, 1/10, and 1/18. The first two are the most common options at a price below 300 dollars.

Wheels: This undoubtedly a crucial part of a car. It ought to be made of sturdy materials and must be designed in a way to hold a firm grip on the surface.

Body: As for the models mentioned above, their body is made of ABS plastic, which is durable and lightweight. This will go a long way in determining how long your speed machine will last.

Battery Life: It could be very frustrating to buy a car that will suddenly stop in the middle of a race because the battery is dead. Therefore, you should choose the car with a battery that will serve you well enough. Similarly, the battery should also be fast to charge fully.

Functionalities: Most of the RC cars under $300 price tag are not just equipped with forward and reverse options, however, they can also climb and rotate at a specific angle, depending on the model you choose.

Motor: Ensure that the RC car is powered by a robust and reliable motor that can survive even the toughest terrain. The motor should likewise be protected from the external agents that could hasten up its damage.

Categories of RC Cars on the Market

The first question that springs up in the mind of anyone new to a remote-controlled car is “which type of RC vehicle should I buy?’’ Before settling on any choice, you should understand that there is a distinct difference between hobby-grade and toy-grade RC cars. The former is substantially more costly; however, as you can expect, they are faster, more durable, and all-round better.

There are many categories of RC vehicles, each with a unique function. Here’s a basic list of the primary categories:

Drift: Drifting RC cars are like typical vehicles that use slick wheels for drifting around corners (which could be very helpful on certain tracks). Controlling an RC car to drift smoothly is challenging.

Buggy: A hybrid between off-road and street RC cars are buggies. They work pretty well on level surfaces and have the required height to deal with off-roading. Be that as it may, the off-roading experience will be slower.

Trucks: Much like the full-sized monster trucks, remote-controlled trucks are the best fit for off-roading. However, they are much slower on the street.

Street: On level, paved surfaces, streetcars are normally unrivaled with regards to cornering and speed. Be that as it may, streetcars suffer significantly on unpleasant terrains, and some are useless on non-level surfaces.

Truggy: These RC trucks are simply the opposite of buggies; they are more capable of off-roading than the street.

Crawler: RC crawlers are able to climb unpleasant terrains: mountains, rocks, and impossible surfaces effortlessly.

Nitro vs. Electric RC Vehicles

If you’re new in the RC game, you will realize that things aren’t as straightforward as you thought. Side interest or not, driving an RC is an entirely technical activity, especially for choosing the right car. For instance, you need to choose between sticking with electric or nitro RC vehicles.

What is the difference?

Nitro: To put simply, the nitro RC vehicles are more powerful — naturally, and are quicker.

On the other side, nitro requires more maintenance at the expense of your pocket, and such expenses will come out of the blue!

Nitro RC trucks and cars offer an incredible chance to know your RC vehicle better. The interesting part is, the more you comprehend the internal functions of the vehicle, the more confident you will become.

Electronics: They have their ups and downs, as well. If you lack in tech matters, you will do well starting with electric RC vehicles and trucks as a pastime.

It offers heaps of fun without stressing to get your RC truck to work. In any case, if you're up for a real-time racing game, you may endure many defeats if you are racing with the nitro folks!

Final Thought

In all honesty, $300 isn't that lavish of an expense in the realm of RC vehicles.

Truly, this price tag is not even close to the high-end part of the market. That story starts at a minimum of $500 and can even get to a thousand. In a nutshell, this is not too much to spend on something that brings you immeasurable pleasures.

These RC vehicles would make sure you get ideal performances for a very long time. All RC cars mentioned above possess some great features, and each is unique, and they are a good value for the money.

Most times, people are unable to get the RC vehicle that they desire because of financial issues.

Hence, it’ advisable to initially get an estimation of the price range that RC cars with your ideal features cost and adjust your budget accordingly.

Conclusively, I do not doubt that having carefully read our review and buying guide, you’d end up with the right choice.
